Chris Sparks is a Language Arts teacher at East Hartford High School in East Hartford, Connecticut. Since 2005, he has been committed to incorporating a human rights-themed curriculum into each class he has taught. Chris currently teaches Human Rights, an interdisciplinary course focusing on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and historic and contemporary violations of those rights. Students can receive UCONN credit for this course and complete a yearlong humanitarian project as a course requirement. In 2016, Chris was awarded the Faculty/Staff Award as teacher of the year by the PTO and received a fellowship from Fund For Teachers. He is a certified Lead Teacher with the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights Center. Chris graduated from Marist College and obtained his MS in Secondary Language Arts Education from the University of New Haven.
